  • Are alpha males born or created?

It sounds like a silly question, especially in an article focused on training and nutrition. But when I was a scrawny, weakling, I’d have given anything to be looked at and feel as though I was an “alpha”.

An “alpha” was the personification of the strong spirit I had deep down. I was stronger than the man I was showing the world. I was more confident than the body I was in would allow me to be. I was healthier and tougher and, heck, better looking than the scrawny, bony body allowed me to be.

  • You probably have the same thing…

Deep down you KNOW you’re stronger and bigger and better than the guy you’re showing the world. But because of fads, myths, and downright crappy information, you’ve been stuck with a body that in no way makes you feel like the warrior badass you know you’re destined to become.

It’s like your body and your spirit are out of line, and no matter what you do in the gym, no matter how you eat or how disciplined you are, you never come CLOSE to looking like that badass you are when you dream at night.

I spent years in this body. I wasn’t trapped in something that wasn’t me. I was frustrated that I wasn’t able to EARN what I felt WAS ME.

I’d flip through magazines and see transformations and wonder why I wasn’t able to create them. I’d see guys in my gym benching 3 plates or squatting 5, while I was stuck on two and a quarter, and two, for years. My vertical leap wasn’t where it could have been, nor was the power in my punch that I now carry into sparring.

No strength program, be it 5x5, German Volume, or any other program got me as strong as I wanted or NEEDED to be to build my ideal body.

Which is something we need to address very briefly…

NO MATTER YOUR GOAL, THE STRONGER YOU ARE, THE BETTER EQUIPPED YOU ARE TO REACH IT

The problem is that most of the programs in muscle mags or even strength sites, don’t get you the optimal results you need from a strength standpoint because they all lead to one single place:

The Plateau

Programs are almost “inviting” your body to plateau because of how they’re set up NOT to adjust and shift as your body adapts to the demands you’re placing upon them.

In this article I’m going to show you two things:

  • I’m going to show you the method that has helped me get stronger than I’ve ever been, even being over a decade into training, it’s helped me break through plateaus that I’ve held for almost just as long.
  • I’m going to show you how to optimize your testosterone levels through simple changes in your diet that WON’T hinder your social life, but WILL give you drug-like effects that will help you experience MONSTER gains in the gym.

I’ve spent over a decade helping guys build their ideal bodies, and even now, after helping thousands create their own personal transformations, I’m updating all of my programs to follow this one, simple method.

I’ve also built software that allows the trainee to use this method without doing ANY calculations on their own, no adding, no figuring anything out, just getting to the gym, working hard, and watching the numbers skyrocket.

I was skinny, even skinny fat, and I wasn’t walking around with my head held high, nor living life with the purpose and bravado that I do now. And to be honest, I was even a lap dog to the lady I was dating at the time.

Nothing about me screamed ALPHA!

What I eventually figured out was that there are 3 barriers that stop most guys from becoming physical alphas…

… And I say “physical” alphas, because becoming a true alpha male requires balls, grit, courage, and honor. It requires of you an inquisitive mind. A thirst for knowledge. An ambition to become great.

HOWEVER (and this is a big one)…

By becoming a physical alpha it gives you the confidence and the pride to become an alpha male in every other area of your life.

After I figured this stuff out I traveled the world for a year and a half. I become a man of action. Rather than a guy who over-thought everything. Before I figured this stuff out I was stressed and constantly worried about everything in my life.

It crippled me, turning me into a wimp!

When I created my physical transformation, it was almost like I was now given “permission” to become the guy I’d always knew I was deep down.

But this is an important one…

The journey of improving the Self never really ends. Life isn’t a climb with a peak; it’s an arduous climb that never really ends. Everyday of your life you should be improving yourself, and when you figure out the 3 factors holding you back from becoming a physical alpha, you allow yourself to live life on your terms.

It’s frustrating because I too spent 8 years trying to build my own better body and failing because “what works” isn’t actually the norm nor is it known, what sells is.

And so, I’m not going to tell you about any tricks or gimmicks designed to get you quick results.

I am going to tell you how to get the best results you can possibly get by using a mathematical, science-backed approach that will require only that you work hard and I'm going to let you try it out for free.

Here’s a simple fact:

Up to this point you haven’t come close to reaching your potential.

The reasons for which are simple, you’ve been fed information that won’t help you get optimal results.

You’ve found gimmicks and tricks because that’s what 99% of the information out there is.

Tactics that promise quick results without much effort don’t exist. Well, they do, but they’re not meant to help you get your optimal body, they’re designed to empty your wallet.

What I've learned over the past decade about squeezing out every last ounce of potential may run contrary to what you've heard thus far. For one, it cannot be easy, hard work is a necessity, but the path that must be laid you of your has to see you to your end by helping you break down your road blocks, and 99% of what's out there falls short for a few reasons...

1. A “Program” isn’t enough.

We’ll cover what is enough in a bit, but you can’t try a 3 month program that follows one strategy, then jump to another and keep your results improving. The program method doesn’t get optimal results because it’s often gimmick-based, and it doesn’t create the proper progression you need to build your optimal body.

If You Want Optimal Results, The 'One Size Fits All' Approach Won't Work

You're not going to get optimal results by lifting weights based on an arbitrary number that your trainer or whichever "guru" you're following tells you to lift.

However, when you know EXACTLY what weights you should be lifting because they’re based on their 1 RM, it doesn’t matter if you feel great or like crap, you know how you should perform!

A lack of knowledge is even more apparent when it comes to diet, an industry ruled by myth and fad and whichever gimmick is "hot" at the moment...

2. Diet tricks don’t work.

You hear the gimmicks daily, “try cheat days to burn more fat”, “you can eat all the foods you want if…”, “green tea is a magic fat loss drink”…

We could go on for hours, the reality is that weight loss and weight gain are purely caloric, however, to lose fat but not muscle, or to gain muscle and get stronger but not gain fat, you need the right macros and the right dieting or gaining strategy...

... The same goes if you want to stay the same weight but gain muscle and lose fat.

You also need optimal hormones. Where this becomes important is in trying to build muscle. When most guys try to build muscle they simply “bulk”. A couple problems with this:

  • Simply bulking will wreak havoc on your insulin sensitivity making your body store more fat.
  • As you store more fat your testosterone levels plummet, making it harder to build muscle.

3. Most programs don’t know how to force you to get stronger (and that’s important for every goal).

Without strength you cannot go from average to alpha.

Without strength you’re not going to burn fat as fast, nor are you going to build muscle as fast or AS MUCH MUSCLE, period, yet even those programs that do focus on strength, whether they’re helping you burn fat or build muscle, aren’t effective ENOUGH.

The key word is ENOUGH.

To Produce OPTIMAL Results A Program Must...

a. Progressively overload the muscle.

However, most programs aren’t based on any number, as we’ve already discussed. They aren’t made specifically for you, rather, they’re made for everyone because they’re made to sell, not to provide optimal results.

Good strength coaches know how to do this. They take your 1RM – which is an easy thing to test without actually having to lift your 1 rep max – and they base your workouts on those numbers.

When you have that initial number you can use percentages to figure out PRECISELY what weights you should be lifting now, and what weights you should be lifting in 6 weeks no matter what rep count you’re aiming for.

Most programs try and get you results that look like this by simply “adding weight every week”:

What ends up happening is something called burn out, you hit a plateau because you’re just arbitrarily choosing a weight, so your results end up looking more like this:

Which brings me to…

b. Follow a periodization model with undulating intensity and volume (PUD).

You can’t just lift HEAVIER each week and get stronger. Your body doesn’t work like that. It adapts. This is where the “muscle confusion” nutcases typically come in with their “do different things everyday” “principle” that creates even more of a plateau because no strategy = no gains.

Muscle confusion doesn’t work in the long run. It’s catchy, I’ll give them that, but it won’t get you an optimal body, it’ll just give someone else your money.

When you’re setting out to get REAL RESULTS that you can both see in the mirror and in the amount of weights you’re lifting, periodization becoming very important so as to continue growth and improvement, without plateauing.

By undulating intensity and volume while also getting stronger you're going to be able to build muscle muscle, avoid plateaus, and get stronger much faster.

The 'Program Model' Won't Make You Your STRONGEST

A 3 month focus is too “small picture” to help you build your ideal body. You can’t structure the best program in such a short time because you need to take into account tapering weeks and intensity vs volume and plateaus you may hit along the way.

The program method is keeping you caged, fraction of who you can become.

You, my friend, are not meant to be caged. When you break away from those things that aren't taking you far enough, pushing you hard enough, you open yourself up to a whole new world of potential.

Where optimal results are created are usually with a GOOD coach, not in a cookie cutter program.

There are, yet again, however, a few problems with “coaches”.

a) Most don’t know what they’re doing. Many do, but many don’t.

b) They’re expensive. Not too expensive. I think they’re worth it, but they’re still expensive.

The ideal would be as follows:

  • 1

    Use percentage-based training instead of shooting darts in the dark.

    You test your 1RM (which is easy, I’ll show you how to do this) then you have a program laid out for you where you plug your numbers in and, voila, you know exactly what weight you need to lift for the next month.

  • 2

    A program that evolves as you evolve.

    You follow the program and re-test your 1RM numbers to see how you’ve improved. After which you start the next training block based on your new numbers.

  • 3

    Know exactly how much you need to eat to reach your goals.

    You have something track your calories and your weight, this way you’ll know if you’re eating enough or too little, or if you need to cut down on your caloric intake (it all depends on your own specific goals).

  • 4

    A coach showing you proper form and technique.

    You’ll have someone showing you proper form. It’s sad but there are a handful of trainers don’t actually know what that looks like. The best coaches do this… They bring you along with programs that are tailored to you and your goals, with diets that help you reach your goals in a healthy, fast, effective manner.

The program model is awesome for getting initial results.
