Anyone can be a lion for a day; anyone. But few are. It’s easier to follow than it is to lead, which is why the world is lacking great leaders. People, whether they’d like to admit it or not, would rather be pitied than envied. They’d rather have the sympathy of other people, than they’re respect – or at least that’s what they’re actions would success.

A lion never waits for someone to come rescue him because he knows that no one is coming. He doesn’t wait for someone to come and give him the secret to killing a zebra, he wakes up, yawns, roars, and marches out on the Serengeti, hunts, then dines like a king. He doesn’t try to lead, he leads. He doesn’t worry, he is.

How to Be a Lion for a Day

1. Today is all that exists.

Have your long term goals, but don’t worry about the road that it will take to accomplish them. Only concern yourself with what exists today. The work you have to do today. The discipline you have to practice today. That’s the only way you can become great.

2. Be wild.

Tame men don’t accomplish great things. Wild, unafraid, courageous men conquer the world and conquer their fears. You were born to be wild at heart, you weren’t born to be tamed, timid, and afraid. Live as if you’re not afraid and you’ll be unafraid.

3. Be bold.

A lion is bold. He marches into dangerous situations because he knows he’s powerful. He knows that even though there are bigger animals, they all have to worry about him, he doesn’t have to worry about them. Don’t live life in fear or consumed by worry. Leave your imprint on everything you do, don’t have everything you see impact you in a negative way. Stay the course and be bold.

Make decisions as if you’re the most powerful lion in the world. There is nothing to fear, so don’t let fear cloud your courage. Be big, bold, and audacious in what you attempt. But make sure you attempt it, don’t merely think about it, do it.

4. No one is coming.

No one is coming to help you. You’re on your own to make your own way in the world, to make your own money, success, and create your own freedom. This might scare you, but it should also liberate you. Everything you want in life is under your control. So man up, stand up, and forge your own path, don’t follow in the footsteps of others who had the courage to embark on their own journey.

5. Fight for what you want in life.

Every pride has 1 alpha male. It can only have one alpha male. Two or three can’t exist in the same space. As such, an alpha always has to fight for and defend what’s his against other strong, male lions.

Let’s say you have a goal, a big goal. Whether it’s being ripped, gaining muscle, being a millionaire, or starting your own company, are you fighting for this goal or merely going through the motions that you think will get you where you want to be.

The truth: anything of great value needs to be fought for and earned.

Another truth: today is the only fight you should concern yourself with.

Fight the Resistance today. Fight to stay focused, disciplined, and hard working for the next 24 hours. But fight. If you’re not fighting, you’re not a lion, and you don’t have anything worth fighting for. While you may have a goal that is worth fighting for, you don’t want it bad enough to fight for it. But someone does.

Someone out there is after what you’re after. Are you going to be a lion and defend what’s yours? Or will you be a coward and hand it over to someone who’s more worthy.
