Hey Alec,

You're doing the right thing. Working on one thing at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself or you risk falling off the wagon completely and binging. I'd get on some kind of program, something that you can follow so you're not always guessing what to do. If you need help with that I'd be glad to give you a hand.

Also, really work on setting short goals that are focused on the process, not the result. That'll help big time.

I am currently one fat excuse after another looking for the motivation to make major changes in my diet, health and weight. So far I have been extremely lucky as that I haven't developed any health problems or major diseases based on my weight or my diet.

There are some major changes that I am slowly implementing into my daily routine, and from this article I have a few more. The one thing is more water throughout the day, but I am also going to add it first thing in the morning. The other is to cut my carbs to a much lower level in the morning, which typically consists of 2 whole eggs, 3 egg whites, and 1/2 cup of oatmeal which I will now start adding cinnamon.

The biggest problem I have is late night snacking. I know it is just mindless eating and I need to find another outlet but it is extremely tough. I try to eat healthy which isn't the problem, it is more an issue of quantity control. I will eat an entire small bag of baby carrots, or 2 bags of popcorn, or an entire tub of yogurt. I can't have nuts in the house or I will mindlessly eat half the can before I realize what I have done. I just never feel satisfied, and I think that is because my life is pretty unsatisfying at the moment.

If you have any tips to help with this I would greatly appreciate them! Keep up the good fight!

Hey Andy, there are a ton of articles/studies out on cinnamon. Here's a quick one: http://diabetes.about.com/od/whatsonthehorizon/qt
I'm trying to find the study I was looking at – will forward to when I find it. It's some pretty interesting stuff but try incorporating it into your higher carb meals.

It took me years of dead-end 'programs' and outrageous diet/excercise regimes with no scientific basis before I discovered, more by trial and error than anything else, most of the points that you offer here. I have to admit I've never heard the one about cinammon, however! I wonder where you came by that information? I agree with everything here – especially about short, intensive periods of excersise being better than long drives and for all the reasons stated. I wish this post had been before my eyes years ago but hope that it will help others avoid the long and frustrating journey i made. Thank you!
