When you’re trying to tell somebody how to increase their punching power and you mention lifting any kind of weights before HITTING THE HEAVYBAG which is the number one way too build punching power then you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Chopping wood, sledgehammering a Road tyer, even digging ditches all helps build punching power. lifting weights above your head does very little for punching power

Have you ever trained in the sport? Do you have your own comparison with lifting heavy weights for low reps vs. lifting no weights?

Those guys avoided lifting weights because of a fear of getting bulky, but we’re not aiming at bulk here, we’re aiming at improving power WITHOUT bulk. Power in punching requires elasticity with your muscles, if you’re muscle bound, that elasticity disappears.

BUT…

If you perform the right exercises, for the right reps, you WILL improve your punching power by adding the right weight training to your routine. Boxers are now adding powerlifting to their training (NOT BODYBUILDING) because it improves punching speed and punching power. Some guys are born with power, but that doesn’t mean they can’t improve upon their God-given gifts, and that doesn’t mean the guy who isn’t born with power can’t improve as well.

Read up on guys like Manny Pacquiao (who has a powerlifting coach). And before you call one of my articles “complete bull”, do a little research yourself. And I don’t just mean reading, I mean putting what you’re running your mouth off about into practice, getting in the ring, performing O-lifts, and not bodybuilding.

Neither did Muhammad Ali or Liston. If you want stronger and faster punches avoid the weights and do some pressups. Argue all you want with what I just said but if you don’t believe me research yourself
