Nearly every training focus has merit.

Yes, high reps and a ton of volume is good at times.

Strength training with low volume but higher weight and intensity is also necessary.

Classical hypertrophy reps focusing on sculpting the muscle, also a great way of training.

The problem is that most people find a method that fits what they think they want and then they stick with it forever.

THAT WON’T HELP YOU BUILD YOUR IDEAL BODY.

Guys who only train for strength can end up a bit chubbier. They don’t always look how they want to look. And let’s call it like it is, we all want to LOOK impressive.

Guys who’re constantly going after higher reps aren’t strong. They can have puffy muscle after a while that doesn’t have the density required to get ripped for extended periods.

Guys who train only hypertrophy reps have neither the endurance nor the density to claim they’re at they’re peak, and these guys almost always have puffy muscle.

The problem is that everyone attaches themselves to a method and claims it as the best way to train.

The truth is that you need each method if you want to look and perform like an elite athlete or warrior.

Over the past few days we’ve talked about how each method plays into creating the best body possible.

THE FOUNDATION

I’ve been training since I was in high school, and of all the methods I’ve done, the D.U.P. method can’t be beat.

Daily Undulating Periodization takes both intense, heavy lifting, and high rep, high volume lifting, and combines them. More than that, it uses your strength as the basis for which weights to choose and so forth.

Step 1: You’re going to build strong, POWERFUL, DENSE muscle.

Power is performance, it’s explosiveness, and it actually helps more in muscular endurance than hypertrophy reps do.

First, lift life a man.

That is, first focus on becoming what a man is, a warrior, someone who can fight and defend and win. Build the strength and power necessary to be at your best, both in terms of physique, but also to enable a more arduous and adventurous and daring lifestyle.

Dense muscle helps you:

  • Build muscle faster.

Step 2: Build anabolic and metabolic muscle.

Undulating with your focus on explosive power and strength is a focus on building muscle.

Muscle is important. It’s necessary, no matter your goal. The more you have the greater capacity for strength you have, but you’re also going to make your metabolism SOAR.

This is IMPORTANT.

Most guys who focus on burning fat don’t focus on building as much muscle and possible. Muscle makes fat loss easy.

From a pure performance and training perspective I’ve never come close to getting the results I’ve gotten from anything but the DUP method.

Earlier I mentioned that in order to achieve optimal results you cannot simply add weight each week. And yet, to create optimal results you have to progressively overload the muscle.

So what gives?

Well, there's volume and there's intensity.

Intensity in the weight training sense isn't actually how hard you're training, it's how close the weight you're lifting is to your 1 rep max (how many times you can lift a weight for 1 rep).

Volume is the overall amount of weight you lift in a workout or in a set.

You need to lift more weight both in intensity and in volume, and you need to rotate if you're lifting for intensity or for volume.

It's the D.U.P. Method, or Daily Undulating Periodization that allows you to do this, and it's this DUP Method that we're going to use, along with a warrior-focused training method, to get you to your ideal body faster than ever.

Example of intensity vs volume:

3x4 reps of 200 lbs = a total volume of 2,400 lbs - which is an intense set.

3x10 reps of 185 lbs = a total volume of 5,550 lbs - which isn't an intense set, but the volume is far greater.

With the DUP Method you rotate different intensities and volume into your training so you're always, technically, lifting more weight, but you're not breaking your body down so much by constantly lifting "heavy" or "intense".

The results are greater gains if you're training to build muscle, but also more lean mass maintained if you're trying to lose fat.
