Churches and charities have done more good than social welfare systems. The latter has created more poverty, the prior seeks to end it.

By putting the health and welfare of people in the hands of a government, it takes it out of the hands of their neighbors. And where governments PROFIT (stay in power) as a result of MORE poverty, don’t you think the conflict of interest is just a little too much?

“it’s difficult for people who are well fed, well clothed and without severe psychiatric disorders to accurately judge what the poor “really need.” – so then no one can help I guess?

If you privatize helping people the agency will be run as a business looking for profit (coming from a social worker with 8+ years of experience and an MSW;) working at agencies that are private was far worse then working at county or federal establishments. Private organizations will place business needs over client needs. I love your blog, but in all honesty it’s difficult for people who are well fed, well clothed and without severe psychiatric disorders to accurately judge what the poor “really need.”

The politicians’ objective is to stay in office as long as possible on the backs of the people that they claim to help – they just perpetuate the self-feeding cycle.

Delving into the realm of politics, I see. However, there is one very glaring error in your article. You mention ‘Common Sense’. And while most real men would probably agree with you in this article, all too often ‘Common Sense’ ain’t too damn common. Just like freedom ain’t “Free”.
