He was doomed no matter what. There he was, the biggest, baddest warrior and he had to fight a boy. If he wins he would be laughed at for killing a boy. If he lost he would be laughed at for being killed by a boy. In the end he was killed with a “bullet” from a distance. It was bravery from a distance. Nope…I was always on Goliath’s side. He was the best and expected to fight the best. He was cheated. Props to David for stepping up but nothing more.

Reading this post reminds me of the book “The Way of Men” by Jack Donovan. A book I highly recommend for those who have not read it yet. In it, he discusses why being manly means being good at being a man as opposed to being a good man. You can be a good man and not be good at being a manly, you can be good at being a manly and not be a good man or you can be a good man AND be good at being manly. It comes down to morals, virtues and the willingness to step up and do what needs to be done when needed, even if it means doing what some would consider “bad”.
In todays “politically correct” society, masculinity has been demonized as “old fashioned patriarchy”. When in fact, patriarchy is dominance of both genders and not just the misogynistic dominance over women. Too many men think they live manly lives because they obsess over sports, drinking and/or womanizing. Few men actually take measures to live the best version of themselves. It’s easier to be a complacent, couch potato, arm chair quarterback rather than challenging yourself.
Thanks for all your inspirational work!!
