Hey Alec,

No supplementation should "replace", it should merely supplement an already healthy diet by giving you nutrients that you aren't getting enough of. Real food is always the best way to go.

But yes, greens will help you get some of the nutrients you're lacking for sure.

Honestly I am not one who likes a large selection of vegetables so I have a tough time getting all the nutrients I need on a daily basis. I also don't like the prep time so the vegetables I do get are easy to throw into the food. I am looking for a decent alternative to vegetables. I understand that their is nothing better then the real stuff, but if I am not getting it now then at least I could benefit from a powder supplement.

As George Carlin said, commenting on the fad of carrying a water bottle around, "When did we suddenly get so thirsty?" Drinking huge amounts of fluid is at best unnecessary, and since it's a modern experiment in human metabolism, only time will tell whether it's harmful.

I see from your posts that you also think that we need to eat 5-6 times a day as well, despite the fact that hard-muscled, physically active humans for thousands of years – both hunter-gather and agricultural – only ate 1-2 meals a day and never more than three. Paleolithic humans were also as tall or taller – a standard method of assessing the health and nutrition of a population (not individuals) – than modern Western Europeans and North Americans. Once again ,bodybuilders' methods have seeped into the mainstream, despite their being developed for appearance, not health.. Again, time will tell, whether constant eating is merely unnecessary or actually harmful if followed long-term.

Great point Michael!

I agree with a lot of the paleo diets/nutrition to an extent. Many of the people I know that drink a gallon a day of water are as much concerned about hydration, health, as they are performance and muscle. I'm actually not concerned at all with bodybuilding per se and don't train or eat like one. I'm not the kind of guy that'll do things that will harm my body in order to look massive.

I think this is a good, interesting point, but I still disagree. There are a lot of people who are very healthy and in great shape that I also feel will disagree with you. If you're forcing yourself to drink water, I think it's a negative. But if you're sipping on water throughout the day, you're hydrating your muscles, cleaning out your body of waste, and doing a lot more good than you would be otherwise.

And thanks for clarifying the intro to the last comment man – I did take that to offence and clearly shouldn't have, my apologies! I value your point of view man, thanks for the thoughts!

Our hunter-gatherers ancestors simply didn't have the ability to have access to fluids constantly, yet they were far more active than we on a daily basis. We simply didn't evolve to NEED the 1-2 gallons of fluid that some bodybuilders and other fitness enthusiasts claim that we should drink since it was impossible for our Paleolithic humans to obtain it.

This craze for drinking huge amounts of fluids, particularly cold water, started among bodybuilders about 10-15 years ago. It was supposed to increase fat-burning (?). Of course, a lot of bodybuilding and fitness writers lie about their training routines and diets, so it's probable that some of them are also lying about their massive water intakes, too. However, those who aren't and those who follow their recommendations are conducting an unprecedented experiment in human metabolism. Traditional Chinese medicine recommends against drinking large amounts of fluid, saying it weakens and damages the kidneys. I tend to trust their thousands of years of experience more than I do bodybuilders.

Maybe drinking huge amounts of fluids on a daily basis for 10-20 years or more will turn out to be harmless, but maybe it won't. Eating processed foods and trans fats hasn't workout out so well. BTW, I was sort of kidding about being the only one who knew how many ounces were in a gallon. Sorry about not using a LOL or an emoticon.

Hey Michael, I disagree my friend! I have a very smart readership so I don't think you're the only one who knows how many ounces are in a gallon.

I'm up here in Canada where we go by litres. So I was thinking 4 litres, but wrote 4 gallons. Honest mistake my man. And yes that's a lot of fluid for our kidneys to process – but you think it's too much? I'd have to disagree ESPECIALLY for someone living an active lifestyle like myself or that vast majority of the reader's of this blog.

I'd love to hear where you're coming from though – thanks for the comment man.
